♥...Moist Chocolate Cake...♥
Having tried a few moist chocolate cakes before, the result had always disappointed me. It’ll be toooooooooo moisty (watery) in the center even after chilling for hours. Hey, I did not claim the recipe is wrong! I did mistake somewhere for sure! Well, I’ve just started baking U know…(errr, just justifying myself here…)
Thus tempted me to try another recipe, highly recommended by Namitha and Sunitha from Cookingpals. Thanks to Namitha for passing me the conversion link. That really helps.
Would say I was terribly excited and satisfied with the outcome. My kids enjoyed the cake very much and Rishie has even ordered me to do it again. Haha, so what else verdict do U need??? This recipe is sure a keeper.

Recipe originally adapted from HERE.
I made half of the recipe, direct copy from COOKINGPALS. Thanks again to Namitha for promoting it! Please do visit them, their photograph speaks everything!

4.Add the milk/buttermilk and cocoa and mix everything well.
5.Add the boiling water and vanilla extract now.
6.Finally add the flour mixture and mix everything well.
7.Pour it into the baking dish and bake for about 30-35 minutes or till the cake is done.

ReplyDeleteI love your cake...It looks really yummy! but can i ask how you make the chocolate ganache topping?
ReplyDeleteFatimah & Ching ~> Thank you for trying the cake! :)
ReplyDeleteJilliane ~> Hi Jillianne, I've included the link for the choc ganache in the post.
Here it is ;)
CHOC GANACHE
500 gm cooking chocolate (finely chopped)
300 gm heavy cream
30 gm butter
* Heat heavy cream until it boils. Turn off flame. Add chopped cooking chocolate n stir quickly. Finally add butter and mix well. Leave it to cool at room temperature for few hours before use.
Hi, OMG! I must be blind to not see the link! I am so sorry if i have troubled you to retype the procedures for me...
ReplyDeleteBut still thank you for sharing!! Am looking forward to bake this tomorrow..=)
Hello Jilliane, no problem! I just paste the method here. Hope you've tried the cake! :)
ReplyDeleteHi. I am new at baking. Just wondering if the
ReplyDeleteflour is all purpose flour ?
Hello Shob,
ReplyDeleteYes, I used the All purpose flour. ;)
Hi! I tried the cake today. It took 2.5 hours to cook, and still in the end the skew didnt come out clean totally. Mine is a zanussi gas oven. I notice cakes take longer to cook in this oven. But the end product is yummy. It was moist. Thank you! Any idea why my oven does this?
ReplyDeleteNeXT i shall try the ganache. Does heavy cream = thickened cream?
Hello Shob,
ReplyDeleteFrankly Im no expert about ovens dear. Im using Teka. Could it be due to gas oven? Not sure though.
But feels good when you said abt the end product! :)
Yes, heavy cream = thickened cream.
This is wonderful. I am happy to have 'bumped' into this site. Looking foward to try more recipes. I am glad that my queries are readily answered. And I loved the moist chocolate cake!
ReplyDeleteHello Shob,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliments! I always check the latest comments section whenever I'm online. I sometimes might miss them. If I do, please excuse me. You may also reach me at love2cook.msia@gmail.com :)
Hope you'll try more recipes here and feedback me :)

hello .. i would like to ask u something about chocolate ganache.. leave it to cool at room temperature for a few hours mean how many hours? hehe.. sorry 1st time baking.. i'm still teenager so i have no idea about it.. hehe..
ReplyDeleteby Nadia. :D
Hello Nadia..
ReplyDeleteHehe no worries in asking questions as I do the same too until now. ;)
Well, I left the ganache for abt 1.5hrs. For quicker use..you may keep in refrigerator for less time.
I would recommend to prepare ganache prior to the cake.
hello.. cake sy x jadi pun.. xsure kenape cm tak naik kek die n hangus je.. is it sbb guna baking powder bkn baking soda? n adakah sbb guna aluminium foil dekat bekas kek ketika letak dlm oven? guna aluminium sbb round tray tu die keluar balik dekat bawah bekas.. frust nye tak jadi utk 1st time.. please help me kak love.. :'(
ReplyDeleteAisey Nadia, sorry baru je nampak reply ni. Jadi tak keknya?

ReplyDeleteHi there..I don't have a measuring cup and I'm afraid that it might not turn out well if I use an ordinary tea cup..if could help chnage it into grams...thank you
ReplyDeleteHi Anon, I did not weigh the ingredients, just used a metric cup instead. Afraid I'm unable to give you the measurement in grams. You may try the online conversion tool. Good luck :)
DeleteHi, I have a few questions to ask about this recipe as I wanted to give it a try. Can I use baking powder instead of soda powder? And, margarine (planta) instead of salted butter? And use ideal milk? I have never tried any online recipes before. Pls help
ReplyDeleteHi Yamuna, so sorry I did not notice your comment here. Please follow the recipe as it is to obtain good result. Thanks :)

ReplyDeleteHi, I would like to bake a birthday cake with this recipe. Do you think I should bake 2 cakes and put them on top of each other? If yes, then what cream can I put in between the 2 cakes? If I want a thick layer of chocolate ganache, do I double the ganache recipe? Do I pour a layer of ganache, chill the cake for a few minutes and pour and chill again till all ganache is used up? Thanks and appreciate your help!
ReplyDeleteSorry 1 more question.....is the chocolate ganache still glossy after I chilled the cake? I am looking for a glossy finish after the cake has been chilled. Thanks and appreciate your help!
ReplyDeleteHi, may I know if this is suitable for a birthday cake? Is it necessary to bake 2 cakes and put them on top of each other? If yes, what can I put in between the 2 cakes? Will the chocolate ganache still glossy after refrigeration (I like the glossy look)? Did you use an 8" round baking tray for this recipe? Appreciate if you could help. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Teo..sorry for my late reply. Kindly message me on my fb page incase its urgent.
DeleteYou may bake 2 separate cakes. For the center part, you may use cream cheese icing. Yes the choc ganache will still look slightly glossy after refrigeration.
And yes 7-8 inch pan
DeleteHi, thanks for your reply.......I am only due to bake this birthday cake in a few weeks time so I still have time; so not urgent. Do you have a cream cheese recipe? If I want a thick layer of chocolate ganache, do I double the ganache recipe? Do I pour a layer of ganache, chill the cake for a few minutes and pour and chill again till all ganache is used up? Thanks and appreciate your help!
ReplyDeleteThis indeed a super moist and fine texture steamed cake. Looks so attractive.
ReplyDeleteI've tried this cake 5 times now. Some times changing the flour to wheat or using buttermilk instead milk, salted butter/unsalted butter.
ReplyDeleteIt tastes so good even with variations. I love the consistency of how it tastes, looks and smells all the time. I have an excel sheet full of recipes i found online and this one goes straight on top. It's a keeper. Thank you
This was delicious & as promised, very very moist! I doubled the batch and spread jam & cream in the middle. I refused the sugar (1.5 cups for a double batch) My hubby said to write the recipe out & make it again - it's a keeper!
ReplyDeleteThis recipe is the best chocolate cake recipe! sooo good, ive made it a few times now! i actually made two lots and made a swirl cake for my sons birthday, i omitted the cocoa and replaced with flour and added red food colouring and strawberry essence and then blobbed it on top of an already made chocolate batter and slightly swirled. yummm
ReplyDeleteI wonder how peanut butter frosting would be on this cake???? Sounds so good!
ReplyDelete
