ReplyDeleteI really want to try this recipe but what is that dried chilli paste. dont know if I can get it here in the UK... Do you think I can make my own? Do you know how to make it? Thanks for your answer.
ReplyDeleteHello Jamila, we use dried chilli paste to make sambal here. So, we prepare the paste in large quantity and will store it in refrigerator for next use. Here's how to prepare it;
DeleteAdd 2 cups of dried chillies in a pot.
Add water until the chillies covered and a spoonful of salt.
Boil them until the chillies soften.
Strain excessive water and allow the chiilies to cool.
Using a food processor, blend the chillies with little water until smooth. This is the paste.
Use only required amt as per recipe. The balance can be kept for later use.
Thanks a lot for your reply. I think it is quiet similar to the "harissa" paste . In Morocco, we make this with dried red chillies as well and it is very very very hot! Do you remove seeds or do you keep them?
DeleteThanks for your time
xx
Jamila
Hi Jamila, I googled Harissa paste and you are right. It's similar. Well, I keep the seeds and will blend them thoroughly. No mention! :)
DeleteHi dear, I just want to let u know that I made this recipe and it was awesome! It was still spicy for us even if I reduced the amount of dried chilli paste but my husband and i loved it. I really enjoyed that combination of sweet, sour and spicy. Thanks a lot for sharing! xx
DeleteHello again Jamila!!! Wow thank you so much for trying the recipe. Some chillies are really spicy..some not. I love spicy but my hubby and kids don't take much spicy. :)
DeleteAgain, thanks..and glad you both loved the dish. Keep in touch and take care! ;)
